DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal Fillers

WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers are also known as filler collagen injections are used for facial aesthetic treatments and are injected into the skin. Dermal fillers work by boosting the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid and effectively adds volume and fullness to the face, diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, smooth the skin and give a natural result and more youthful appearance.

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers are made up of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (a natural substance present in the skin) and are widely used for soft tissue augmentation in areas such as the lips, under the eyes, the nose, wrinkle lines and so on.
  • HA dermal fillers volumise and hydrate soft tissues.
  • The results are immediate and long-lasting.
  • Depending on the specific type of filler injected, the results usually last up to 12 months or longer.
  • Filler administration requires both medical and aesthetic skills as inexperience can result in grieve complications such as blindness and tissue death as well as dissatisfying results such as lumpiness, over-correction and under-correction.

Each of our dermal filler treatments is minimally invasive and have been designed to restore any lost volume in the skin, add shape to the nose or chin, or add definition where you would like it most. Rather than just smoothing the skin, our injectable dermal fillers will help you to achieve the profile you have always dreamed of.

See our list of Dermal Filler Treatments below.

Non-Surgical Nose Job

Non-surgical rhinoplasty (NSR) is a popular injectable treatment that uses a specific type of dermal filler to reshape the nose according to the client’s specific needs. It is a non-invasive alternative to a surgical ‘nose job’ and is associated with greater comfort and much less downtime. The results are reversible too in case a client decides to have the original shape back.

The nose is highly vascularised and therefore a dangerous area to inject but if performed by highly experienced doctors, the procedure is very safe and gives very satisfying results.

The following are some common reasons why people seek NSR:

  • The nose does not appear ‘straight’ with bony projections or ‘bumps’ on the nose bridge
  • The nose tip is ‘droopy’ and the client would like some ‘lifting’
  • The shape of the nose tip is either too ‘round’ or too ‘sharp’
  • The nostrils are ‘wide’
  • The nose bridge is ‘flat’ and the client would like to add ‘height’ to the bridge

How long does the procedure take?

The actual procedure takes approximately 15 minutes.

When can you return to normal activities?

Most people can return to normal activities immediately. Mild swelling and redness associated with the injection are common but short-lasting. In some cases, bruising can occur but can usually be concealed with make-up.

How long will the results last?

NSR requires specific types of fillers to be injected; we offer several filler options and the results last between 12 – 18 months.

Under-eye Filler

Also called Tear Tough Filler and and Filler For ‘Dark Eye Circles’. There are several reasons why people are affected by dark eye circles. Often there is a genetic component predisposing people to pigmented/dark skin or thin skin under the eyes. With age or unhealthy lifestyle factors, such as working long hours in front of a computer screen, excess sun exposure on holiday, smoking and drinking, the skin under the eyes gradually lose collagen and elastin and become more pigmented or/and even thinner, failing to conceal and masking the underlying structures, such as the muscles and blood vessels, which then appear as a dark shadow. Often, people will also notice a slight ‘dent’ or ‘gap’ in the tear trough, making them appear ‘tired’.

The under-eye area is delicate and injecting this area requires extensive medical knowledge and experience to ensure safety and good results.

Injecting dermal fillers in this area will achieve the following effects:

  • Make the under-eye look ‘fuller’ and the mid-face more youthful
  • Conceal dark eye circles
  • Give an overall more ‘energised’ eye appearance

1-2 treatments may be required to achieve the optimal results.

When can you return to normal activities?

Most people can return to normal activities immediately. Mild swelling and redness associated with the injection can appear which is very common but short-lasting. In some cases, bruising can occur but can usually be concealed with makeup.

How long will the results last?

Only one specific type of filler is FDA-approved for injecting under the eyes, and this is Teosyal Redensity II. This specific type of filler lasts between 6-9 months.

Lip Filler

People decide to enhance or augment their lips for various reasons. Some people consider fuller and more defined lips attractive. Some people have naturally asymmetrical lip shapes, which they want to correct. Others might want to add hydration to their lips or want to have a smoother/less wrinkly lip appearance.

Lip fillers not only can volumise and define the lips, but also can hydrate the lips and help conceal lip wrinkles, giving the lips a younger appearance.

How long does the procedure take?

Lip fillers typically take 10-20 minutes to perform.

Is lip filler painful?

Many people imagine lip fillers to be very painful due to how sensitive the lips feel. In reality however, people rate lip filler-associated pain very differently. While some do find it painful, many find it largely tolerable. Several measures are usually taken to minimise any discomfort including applying numbing cream prior to the procedure and using lip filler products that contain local anaesthetic/lidocaine.

How many mls do I need?

It is often debated over how many mls of lip filler is enough? 0.5ml, 1ml or 2mls? There is no standard answer. The amount of product required to achieve the ideal lip appearance can vary depending on the state of the natural lips and the expected outcome of the lip filler.

Experienced doctors who have an appreciation for the beauty of lips can usually advise the amount of lip filler required for each client in order to achieve the desired results. The doctor will usually also advise on how many sessions may be needed to deliver the final result. This is why a consultation with an experienced doctor is a crucial part of obtaining an ideal lip appearance.

When can you return to normal activities?

Lip swelling is common after lip fillers and usually settle within a few days. The procedure can sometimes cause bruising to the lips, which usually recover within one week. The lips can feel sensitive for several days after the procedure and during this period, activities that can increase swelling should ideally be avoided, for example, forceful kissing, eating spicy food and applying hot steam to the face.

How long will the results last?

Lip filler can be very long-lasting. Depending on the choice of the filler product and one’s own metabolism, lip fillers can last between 6 – 18 months.

Lower face beautification in young females

Dermal fillers for soft tissue augmentation are gaining popularity rapidly in recent years. Amongst the many available types, hyaluronic acid (HA)-based dermal fillers are especially popular due to their high safety profiles. HA is a compound naturally present in our skin and therefore HA-fillers are generally associated with very low immunogenic side-effects because the body considers the fillers ‘natural’ and part of its own. This means with correct product selection, in the hands of an experienced injector, side effects such as ‘lumps and bumps’ and allergy are uncommon.

HA-based dermal fillers can be injected into almost all major parts of the face for the purpose of rejuvenation, beautification and profile balancing. The lower 1/3 of the face is an area which is particularly affected by the process of ageing and as well it is an area that contributes the most to side profile balancing. The lower 1/3 of the face comprises of structures such as the lips, the chin, the jawline and the lower cheeks.

Many young clients choose to augment this area so that the lower 1/3 of the face appears ‘strong’ and ‘defined’. In order to achieve this, the golden ratios as well as the individual factors need to be taken into consideration. The lips, for example, are usually considered ‘attractive’ if they appear plumped, symmetrical and have an upper to lower lip ratio of 1:1.6. As well the side profile of the lips should demonstrate a nice projection. To create a ‘strong’ and ‘defined’ side profile, the chin needs to have a projection angle that ‘matches’ that of the nose. The length of the chin should also be not too long or too short and in proportion with the upper and mid 1/3s of the face. The jawline is also important for achieving an attractive side profile. The gonial angle which is at the back of the jawbone can be extended or accentuated and as well the jawline itself can be enhanced and made to look more prominent. However, adding volume where there is an excess amount of buccal fat may further add to the ‘heaviness’ of the side profile and does the opposite of what we try to achieve. If this is the case, buccal fat needs to be first addressed – treatments such as ULTRAFORMER III – HIFU and Aqualyx fat-dissolving injections can help reduce buccal fat.

Dermal fillers for Men

With a single syringe, dermal fillers can achieve remarkable results. Unlike popular opinion, that cosmetic injections are only for women, increasing numbers of men have turned to cosmetic doctors to help them with the following concerns:

  • Anti-Ageing: Whether is it to erase or reduce fine line & deep wrinkles, or it is to restore lost facial volume due to weight loss or the normal process of ageing.
  • Lifting: With age, soft tissue tend to drop due to gravity and less collagen production and other factors. Dermal fillers combined with energy treatments like Ultraformer III – HIFU and Infini RF – Fractional Microneedling Radio Frequency, can achieve a natural lift to the facial features and tightens the skin without the need to resort to surgery. This can literally lift years of the patients’ age in a matter of minutes.
  • Improving / Enhancing the Profile: Sometimes the need for dermal filler treatments is not to combat the signs of ageing, but young people find it a safe treatment to rebalance asymmetric facial features like a receding chin, weak jawlines or a drop in the nose bridge etc. Dermal fillers can re-balance the face and achieve more masculine features that are natural and long lasting.

How long does the procedure take?

Depending on the area treated and the amount of fillers required, a typical treatment takes between 10 – 45 minutes to perform.

When can you return to normal activities?

Most people can return to normal activities immediately. Mild swelling and redness associated with the injection can appear, which is very common but short-lasting.

How long will the results last?

The longevity of the results varies depending on the person and their lifestyle as well as how their body responds to the dermal filler. Results depending on the area treated can last anywhere between 6 – 24 months.
